Are you planning a small elopement wedding in Cornwall?
Or maybe thinking about having a vow renewal or blessing in one our chosen small wedding venues? Here are some of the best small wedding venues to Elope to in Cornwall. We have a few suggestions for you to help you make your decision.
What to consider when looking for a small intimate wedding venue?
Lots of venues are adapting and promoting themselves as ‘Elopement Venues’ at the moment, but they may have originally catered for much larger weddings. Having a small wedding is a very intimate occasion and it’s important to have the correct setting and the right people hosting the day to create the best atmosphere for couples.
Here are a few things to think about.
Has the venue adapted the space to make it more intimate for you?
Some rooms that have been licensed to host larger weddings are not suitable for a small ‘run away wedding’ and the couple can look totally lost in a huge room that would usually fit 100+.
What is the background to where you will be saying your vows?
If you want nice pictures from your ceremony, check to see where you will be standing on the day and what is behind you. Creating a memorable space for such an intimate day that can often be filled with lots of emotions is crucial for elopements and intimate weddings.
What are the hosts like?
Having the right people running the venue as just as important, if not more important than the space. You will be spending time and sharing such an intimate day with strangers. Having people around you to help relax you and guide you are extremely important. We have worked in beautiful venues but the owners have been utterly terrible and ruined our couples most important day. They have made us and the couple feel uncomfortable. Creating an environment is more than just the setting but the people you have with you in that setting.
Elopements are intimate and filled with emotions
Over the years, witnessing hundreds of weddings, we know that small intimate weddings and elopements are often highly charged with a mixture of excitement and emotions. Not to say this is not the case with larger weddings. When there is no pressure with people watching or being distracted by 100s of guests, the couple often feel much less stressed and are often more comfortable to open up and be vulnerable. They show their emotions easier in an intimate setting than what we see at larger weddings. Personally, why we are so passionate about small weddings and elopements, is the energy they bring and how wonderful they make us all feel.
Here are our favourite small wedding venues in Cornwall

Fancy an elopement venue set high on the wild cliffs overlooking the ocean? Beacon Crag, in our hometown of Porthleven is highly recommended. Set directly on the rugged cliffs you can’t get any closer to the ocean than this venue and there is even the option to say your vows outside, on the rocky base of the cliffs, with panoramic views of the ocean and the surrounding cliffs. We were so extremely happy to photograph and film an elopement here recently on the cliffs whilst huge waves crashed around the couple. To see the video please click here.. Beacon Crag is run by Samantha who is one of the happiest and most laid back people we know, she will make your elopement fun and memorable. We love getting enquiries for this place as we love the locations around this stretch of coastline, making for the most dramatic of backdrops for you couple pictures. Also did we mention they have a hot tub?
Things to do in Porthleven
Porthleven is home to a famous surf break, a great place to watch huge waves during a storm and has lots of cute independently run restaurants and pubs in the harbour. We eat a stone- baked oven pizza from the Corner Deli at least once a week and love their big selection of Cornish products, our favourite of all is the Cornish gins! Yum yum. This area has some beautiful coastal walks along to Rinsey which is scattered in mine workings, secluded beaches and rock pools which make for great days on the beach, wild swimming or for cliff top picnics overlooking the ocean.
The most Romantic Small Wedding Venue for your Intimate Elopement, Handfasting or Micro wedding is right here in this castle in Cornwall? We just love everything about this venue. It is like nothing else in Cornwall. It is magical and enchanting in every way. This small intimate castle is a romantic choice for couples that have a slight obsession with candles (As we have) and want to walk down the aisle surrounded by hundreds of candles, or have a rooftop elopement overlooking the ocean (by day)or under the stars (by night). The spaces are enchanting, inside and out which makes a stunning backdrop for beautiful couple pictures. Pengersick is pet friendly too making it a wonderful choice for family and pets alike and they host small weddings up to 35 guests. Run by Martyn and Jay who also live here are the most wonderful and warm hosts, their attention to detail is outstanding and we are happy to call them friends. These guys will go above and beyond to make sure you have the perfect day!
Also we were lucky enough to photograph Martyn & Jay’s intimate wedding here in 2017!
What’s on in Praa Sands
You are only a short 5 minute walk from Praa Sands beach which we swim at almost everyday! There is a caravan park close by which is perfect if you are having more guests. Onsite facilities at the park include a heated swimming pool, sauna and Jacuzzi, a play park and hot tubs in the little mobile homes. Praa sands also have beach bars such as The Sand Bar which can host small events for food after the ceremony.
Runaway wedding for two. We have worked closely with Tom and Maya for the past 4-5 years and they are a well established and highly recommended small wedding venue. They were one of the first to specialise in elopements in Cornwall – way before they were popular or trendy! They have hosted nearly 600 elopements in their beautiful home. They have a huge amount of love and warmth to give and each elopement we are blessed to photograph here, is memorable and romantic in every way. We always photograph such fun and adventurous couples here. Couples often book us just so they can go in the sea on their wedding day and explore the cliffs around West Penwith with us. We have photographed wild hearted couples of all ages, our favourite has to be Lily and Alan who eloped- read more here…
Explore West Penwith
This luxury and stylish venue with views of the ocean and set in the most wild and rugged coastline of Cornwall, is a stone’s throw from the famous mines of Botallack which featured in Poldark. There is many hours of fun to be had exploring this stretch of coastline which is home to some of the most spectacular and popular beaches such as Porthcurno and tourist attractions such as Land’s End about 10 minutes away. This area has little light pollution and is one of our favourite areas in Cornwall for watching the milky way and drinking hot choc under the stars. It also has hundreds of hidden coves and secret beaches and tidal pools for wild swimming which we love exploring.

How do you plan a wedding on a small budget?
Hire an Elopement Photographer that offers a small elopement package
It is possible to cut costs on your elopement by hiring a photographer that offers smaller wedding packages. The most popular package we do is the 4-hours of coverage. This amount of time covers everything from just before the ceremony, to the ceremony and then usually a couple of hours exploring the coastline together, getting a range of locations like Cornish mines, rocky coves, windswept cliffs and secret beaches. To read about our elopement packages UK please click here.
Keep it Local
Using local suppliers is highly recommended. Locals will have insider knowledge and the experience. Someone from outside might only be travelling down to enhance their portfolio rather than cater for your needs.
Go for a low-key dress
Lots of our brides wear 2nd hand wedding dresses or wedding dresses from Etsy or Asos thereby saving hundreds if not thousands of pounds. I think this is why our couples are also more happy to end in the sea on their elopement wedding as they don’t have to worry about getting their dress dirty.
You can also save costs by going for a bouquet that is seasonal and locally sourced. Some couples opt for a small dried bouquet and some omit the flowers all together. It really depends on what is important for you. If you want to read more about seasonal wedding flowers please read our blog post ‘ Seasonal Flowers’.
Hampers! Delicious Intimate Food ideas
Lots of our couples love this option from White Radish Catering. They have a huge selection of intimate food idea options to choose from ranging from wedding day hampers to coming into your wedding accommodation to cook for you. If you want to read more please read their blog post ‘Top 5 Wedding Food Trends’ or check out their supplier page.
