Welcome to our Micro Wedding Blog Page

Welcome to our Micro Wedding Blog Page focusing on Micro Weddings, Elopement Weddings & Cornwall Elopements.

What a year 2020 was, not only for all our beautiful wedding couples but also for all the suppliers in this Industry. With all of us having to rethink how we can help get everyone married safely and to ease the backlog of couples who have had to postpone many times or even to cancel their original day. ‘Love always wins’ has been a popular mantra this last year. We have had to re-evaluate what’s important to move forward in the Wedding Industry.

That’s why Micro-Weddings, Small-weddings, Petite-Weddings and Minimony have grown this last year into a huge trend. The Pandemic has become the perfect ‘excuse’ for those who always wanted a simple, sweet wedding surrounded by your favourite family and friends or a way to still have your wedding if you don’t want to postpone for yet another time. So with this in mind, we want to answer all your questions about how to plan your Micro-wedding, what to do about the weather, what to wear and even where to hold it. So, if you want to have a better understanding of what to consider when having your amazing outdoor Micro-Wedding celebration, read on....We have you covered! Cornwall is such a sought after Micro-Wedding destination.

What is a Micro Wedding?

A micro wedding is a wedding with less than 20 guests. Because it’s smaller in size, it’s more budget friendly, more relaxed, and shorter in length than a traditional wedding day. A micro wedding differs from both an elopement and an intimate wedding. An elopement is often done in secret and if it is held at a Registry office or licensed venue is attended by the couple and two witnesses. It may be Celebrant-led (no witness needed as your wedding is not legally binding) or even a quick and simple registry office ceremony but your Micro-Wedding is not done in secret. The guest list is just much smaller. Micro weddings are also different from intimate weddings. A small wedding is considered to have between 30 and 60 guests. Micro weddings can still include wedding traditions if using a Celebrant and couples can get creative in ways that might be more difficult with larger affairs. Whether your Wedding has 2 guests, 15 guests or more, when we are allowed, there is a ceremony that’s perfect for you. I hope you have a better understanding of the differences between them and of the types of wedding ceremonies we enjoy creating for you.

What size is a Small Wedding?

With the changing climate and unpredictable situation surrounding weddings last year, most couples are choosing to have a “sequel wedding“ later in the year when they are allowed . They are enjoying a small ceremony now, followed by a big reception at a later date. So the actual wedding ceremony has been downsized and is evolving into a new trend, the Micro-wedding and the slightly larger version, the Small or Intimate wedding. There is a difference between a small wedding and a micro wedding. Micro-weddings usually have less than 20 guests and are often untraditional and more intimate. Small weddings typically have 30 -50 guests and follow the traditional wedding ceremony rules and rituals. It's important to remember that these numbers will be a little bit different for everyone. The benefit of having a smaller wedding is it’s much easier to plan, costs less and is more enjoyable. You don't have to worry about pleasing a large crowd and you will enjoy your day more by spending quality time with those you love.

Who Should You Invite To Your Cornish Elopement?

This is a really important consideration as who you invite will have an influence on the vibe of your day. You may be unsure of how to cut a guest list from 200 to 20? This is what we suggest! If you are having a micro wedding with 20 guests, you will want to include parents, siblings, and grandparents in that list first. Depending on the size of your family, you would usually have room to invite a few of your best friends. So for most couples, a micro wedding with 20-40 guests that includes parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and best friends is possible.

Why Plan A Micro-Wedding, Elopement, Handfasting or Outdoor Wedding in Cornwall?

Elope UK

Cornwall is a place like no other, golden sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, wild moorlands, ancient woodlands – it’s truly one of the most beautiful and romantic locations in the world to celebrate your love.To Get Away From It All. Escaping your daily life and starting the rest of your lives together as newlyweds in a beautiful location. What could be more romantic than waking up together on the morning of your wedding, spending the day just the two of you in a sublime place?

If the wedding guest list is getting overwhelming and you don’t want to spend the best day of your life with people you haven’t seen in years then why not ditch your guest list and have an intimate micro-wedding in Cornwall. That way you can share your wedding day surrounded with only the most important people to you!

Cornwall has many spectacular wedding venues for every taste. If you are looking for a venue, think about looking at some non-licensed venues as you may be surprised at what is available to you. Your budget will be happy! You may even consider using a wedding celebrant to create a wedding that is unique to you, leaving you free from any family politics and the stress of organising a large wedding.

Less Fuss

Smaller more intimate weddings tend to be simple and centered around the wedding couple and their love for each other. They are perfect if you don’t want to put on a big show for everyone else; you just want to be together and to make a special commitment to each other without the added fuss and obligations.

To Get Married Quickly

If you want to get married quickly then Elopements and Micro-weddings usually take less time to organise (depending on your chosen venue’s availability). Planning your micro-wedding for a weekday will greatly improve your chances of booking somewhere with less notice.

If you haven’t grown up going to church and dreaming of a church wedding one day then escaping to get married in Cornwall could be the perfect answer for you both. You don’t even need a venue (which is a huge saving for you) as in Cornwall, you are surrounded with incredible wild places to celebrate your ceremony without being enclosed in 4 walls!

A Quick Checklist

When Planning For Your Micro Wedding:

Choose your date. (week days are more budget friendly)
Work out your budget.
Make your guest list. (20 or less usually)
Contact those guests to see who will be able to join you.
Book your ceremony location/venue/Celebrant/Registrar/Photographer.
Book the location for your dinner (if it is different from the ceremony location). Book any other important vendors as they are booking up fast. Don’t wait! Make your wedding website if you want one.

Take some time to enjoy your engagement now that all the big stuff is done.

Buy your dress and/or any other wardrobe items and make any appointments for alterations.

Put together the dinner plans for you and your guests, with help from your caterers.

Make a timeline plan for the day.

Purchase and/or make whatever you need for your Decor. (for your outdoor micro-wedding you can skip this step as your backdrop is already stunning.) Make your music playlist. Write your vows, if saying your own or skip this step if using the ‘repeat after me’ format. Double-check and confirm everything.
Enjoy your amazing stress-free and romantic Micro-Wedding day!

What to consider when looking for a small, intimate, Elopement venue?

Unfortunately lots of venues are adapting and promoting themselves as ‘Elopement or Micro-Wedding Venues’ at the moment, but they may have originally catered for much larger weddings. Having a small wedding is a very intimate occasion and it’s important to have the correct setting and the right people hosting the day to create the best atmosphere for couples. Instagram is not a true reflection of real life! Here are a few things to think about when choosing your Micro-Wedding venue..

How To Have A Celebrant-led ceremony

If you are wondering how having a Celebrant-led Wedding works, here’s the process to guide you through it step-by-step. Choose your Celebrant by doing an online search for a suitable candidate. By using relevant keywords and hashtags eg micro-wedding celebrant cornwall or wedding celebrant cornwall or using hashtags like #weddingcelebrantcornwall, you will find a selection of wonderful celebrants to choose from.
