Frequently Asked Questions
Do you work alone or with an assistant?
Generally, I work alone and cover bridal and groom prep if locations are relatively close to each other.
Do you do engagement/ pre-wedding shoots?
I do! Engagement/Pre-wedding shoots are a great way to practice for the big day and help you feel more comfortable and confident in front of the camera. They are included in my full day package. It is a great way for us to get to know each other too and chat about your upcoming wedding. Couples that have engagement shoots are much more relaxed and prepared on their wedding day as they know what to expect. The fear of the unknown is always the worst. Also, you will be pleased to know I NEVER ask you to look at the camera. It is not a fashion shoot. Candid and natural moments are key and it’s just getting you both to focus on each other and forget I am even there. I HATE my own picture being taken so I totally understand.
Do you have any Photography Qualifications?
Yes. After dropping out of school at 15 I later returned to education at 21. I did an A-level in Photography whilst working full-time, I loved it so much in the dark room and using film, I signed up for a full-time 2-year Diploma in which I got a Distinction. I then thought ‘Heck I’ve got this far’, so I signed up for another 3 years and completed a BA Hons Degree in Marine and Natural History Photography and Filmmaking, in which I got a First. I will be 33 this year and I am considering doing my Masters. I am currently completing two online courses in marketing and business. I also invest a lot of my income on wedding conferences and photography workshops every year. The area I plan to improve on over the coming year is my writing skills. I suck at that. I love learning and looking back over the years to see how far I have come. Some of us are late bloomers.
Can I get my photographs on a USB and how long does it take?
Yes, you will receive all your images on a wooden USB. All images will be edited individually-no batch processing and they will be high resolution and un-watermarked, so you can use/print as you please. There will be NO additional cost for minor Photoshop touch ups, e.g. spot removal. Editing takes on average 4 weeks but up to 6 weeks during busier periods.
What equipment do you use?
I always shoot with top of the range equipment and lenses and this can be discussed in person.
Do you have back-up equipment?
Yes, I always carry two cameras with me.
How many photographs will you take?
Depending on the amount of hours booked, generally about 800 for a 10/11 hour wedding.
Have you shot at the venue before?
I don’t always visit a venue prior to a wedding. I will always arrive early on the wedding day (1+ hours beforehand) to scout out locations and places for shots. As I predominately shoot in places with the best light it is hard to decided months before as it might be too sunny, raining or different on the wedding day. I ask couples to trust my photographic judgment. I will ensure I do portraits and formal family shots in the best locations. I do however offer guidance when planning your timeline as to the best times of the day for portraits.
What happens if you are ill?
In the unlikely event I am dying, I will find you a replacement photographer.
Do you do formal family pics?
I can do some traditional & formal family shots if required. I do ask formal family shots to be kept to a minimum and will require a list of names prior to the wedding and you will need to appoint someone in your wedding party to find the family members. Usually a maximum of around 8-10 family combinations.
How long will you stay?
I will cover your bridal/ groom preparations right up until about half an hour after First Dance, any additional hours will be charged at £100phr.
How much is the deposit?
I ask for 25% of the total price and a contract will also need to be signed before any date is secure.
When does the remaining balance need to be paid?
The balance needs to be paid on the 1st of the month, the month prior to your wedding.
